Northeast Tennessee

One-sided

Northeast Tennessee Arrowhead (Indian Trail) Johnson City

It was a humid morning in the mid 60s with a light rain. 11 Pax showed up with a carefully selected coupon, ideal for one arm slinging, under consideration of the weather and other factors. One even felt, after all that consideration, that a coupon wasn’t necessary – or they just forgot.

THE THANG
Much like political views, Steelers and Bengals payrolls, and crunch-time TN kicks, the theme for today was one-sided. All exercises involved isolating one side of the body.

Pre-thang Thang

Partner up, Wall sits while the other partner lunged halfway across the width of the parking lot. The one-sided aspect of the wall sit was to straighten one leg while seated, so only your heel is touching the ground while your partner lunged out. When they turned around to lunge back, switch heels. Rinse and Repeat x3

Thang Thang

Pax cycled through a round of 4 exercises. Reps started at 3. After the round, Pax suitcase carried their coupon with one arm to the 4th light post, switching arms for the return. Rinse and Repeat with reps increasing by 3 (ie, 3, 6, 9, 12)

  • Uneven merkins (each side)
  • One-armed bent over rows (ea)
  • Coupon split squats (ea)
  • Freak Nasties (4ct) (ea)

CIRCLE OF TRUST

MOLESKIN
Need a name for the one-legged touch the ground thing. And if a cool name exists for a one-legged wall sit, let’s use it.

Let’s brainstorm: a one-legged dead lift, so like a pirate with a peg leg. Blackbeard, Long John Silver. And then there’s a high knee, sort-of kick, like an 80s fitness thing. Richard Simmons, Suzanne Somers, Jane Fonda. Maybe the name should be Peg Leg Simmons, or Long John Simmons, or Long John Suzanne Somers (wait, Long John as a verb, no, that won’t work, we got kids here). Maybe Jane Blackbeard. Actually, let’s go with Long John Simmons. We did like 12 of them today.
