What’s your word for 2018?  ‘Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. ‘ Galatians 5:19-24 https://www.bible.com/bible/59/GAL.5.19-24

My word for 2018 is “kindness”.  When I get tired, grumpy, hungry, etc., I take out my frustration on those I love the most.  Instead of showing them my best, they get my worst.  I expect my kids to act a certain way only to demonstrate to them actions that I would be disappointed in from them.  My 2018 goal is simple, to be kind.  The verses above remind us though that kindness, along with patience (another weakness), self-control, and other fruits of the spirit, as they are commonly known, are just that.  They are the fruit of the Spirit’s work in your life.  Men, we can’t do this alone.  It’s great to have other men to be accountable to, and I cherish the opportunity to be part of this group, but while you can hold me accountable, there’s only one to whom I look for the strength to accomplish this and that’s Jesus Christ.  Let’s pray that through His power and the work of the Spirit we can step it up and be the men we are called to be in 2018!
