Northeast Tennessee

RIP Coolio.

Northeast Tennessee Arrowhead (Indian Trail) Johnson City

9 Doods rolled up with their homies just to work on their fitness. Lovely weather to commemorate one of 90’s hip-hop playas.

Inchworms (done last, and nearly omitted, until a timely and heartfelt reminder was given). Squats, pushups, arm pretzels, LBAC, merkins, and a good lesson on why if you don’t come for a month you might want to practice counting in cadence before you jump back in.

THE THANG
Tryin sumpin’ new here – a Rapbata, or a Tabap (we’ll let the Pax decide on the name, but neither really took off during the Q).

Rapbata 1: Coolio’s Grammy-nominated Best Rap Solo performance 1, 2, 3, 4 Sumpin’ New

Do SSH, or hold an Al Gore (you can alternate), but you must do 4 burpees every time the hook plays (starting with 1,2,3,4) (36 burpees)

Rest 60 seconds

Mosey (our fantastic voyage) to the playground (our Gangsta’s Paradise), where we’ll run a cardio circuit to both songs.

Rapbata 2: Fantastic Voyage

  • 5 pull ups
  • Octomerkins
  • 15 step ups (1 ct each leg)
  • 20 Freddie Mercuries IC

Rest 60 seconds

Rapbata 3: Gangsta’s Paradise

  • 5 underdogs
  • 15 lunges (1 ct each leg)
  • 5 diamond push ups
  • 20 BBSU

This was actually repeated once, for effex.

Rest 60 seconds, mosey back to the sounds of I’ll See You When You Get There

Rapbata 4: The Hustler

Fun fact. Coolio was a severe asthmatic. To empathize with this artist, run Grate to Grate sprints accompanied by the little-known but worst Coolio song ever, a compilation between Coolio and Kenny Rogers called “the Hustle”, released only in Japan on Coolio’s albumn, “Coolio.com”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAHCsC06Ueg

I mean, it’s really, really, terrible. Like sprints.

Note here. Wow. I totally forgot how to run these 3×3. And they are not complicated, I just blanked. Thanks to Jake and the other Pax for setting me straight and everyone for not making fun of me (to my face) for screwing it up as badly as I did.

MARY
Boat canoe (which some felt was reversed, but I always thought the canoe was the longer pose because it generally had a higher width-to-length ratio, rather than it being physically longer, which would indicate a boat to some). And a 60 second plank.

MOLESKIN
Coolio was another rap star of the 90’s with a lot of talent and soul, but a troubling personal life. Father of 10 children, only four of which with his wife of four years, and arrested multiple times for gun possession, larceny, and other crimes.

His career rose and peaked within a 3 year period from 1994-1997, but he is still a household name for a certain generation. And yet, despite his fame, what true impact has he had on any of us? Aside from a memory to two, not much.

At a recent men’s retreat, someone said to me, “Your personal impact will always be greater than your professional one”. With a few notable historical examples, I think he was right. And yet many of us (myself chief offender here) put more effort into our professional than personal impact.
