A Die Hard Christmas

Northeast Tennessee Arrowhead (Indian Trail)

It was a balmy cold 26 degrees outside as two PAX transformed into John McClane and Hans Gruber, as we battled our way out of Nakatomi plaza. Gutterball was already warmed up by the time the Q leader arrived (after serval attempts to start his vehicle when it sat idle through the below freezing conditions this week).

THE THANG
There are many debates throughout this time of year on whether or not Die hard is considered to be a “Christmas Movie”. As for me, I believe it is a classic Christmas movie. It has everything you need/want in a Christmas movie. After watching the first and second Die hard this weekend I thought what a great idea for a Q…..The premise of the workout One PAX was named Hans Gruber (Gutterball) and another PAX was named John McClane (bobber). Since there was only two PAX today we didn’t have any hostages to save. The goal was for McClane to safely recover the hostage PAX. Each round was a battle between McClane and Gruber which featured 20 reps of the following exercises in cadence.

  • 20 Block Squats IC
  • 20 Block Presses IC (on your back)
  • 20 Block swings
  • 10 Man Makers (difficult)

At the end of the exercises, McClane and Gruber were timed for 1 minute to do the most reps of one of the exercises in the round (Round 1 Merkins, Round 2 LBC, Round 3 Flutter kicks, and Round 4 Freddy Mercuries). The goal was for McClane to out rep Gruber to save a hostage. Once all the hostages are saved the workout is complete. The end of the workout which we did not complete (since the Q leader was late) was 35 burpees since there are 35 floors in the Nakatomi Plaza.

Here are 7 reasons why Die Hard is considered a Christmas Movie

  • It takes place during a holiday office party
  • It has Christmas music
  • John’s wife has a christmas-y name (Holly)
  • There are presents involved
    • Harry gives Holly a Rolex watch
    • FBI gifts Hans Gruber access to Nakatomi vault
    • John’s Gun is kind of gift wrapped with his showdown with Hans
  • Santa Claus (sort of) makes an appearance
  • It snows at the end
  • In a recent poll 1.3 million Americans watch Die Hard on Christmas eve. It beat out traditional holiday favorites Home Alone, Miracle on 34th street, The Santa Clause, Its a Wonderful Life.

So I do believe it is a great and terrific Christmas Movie….Yippee-ki-yay!
