The Return of Thiggy’s Hill

A cool, crisp morning greeted nine PAX.  Pedialyte’s 57th birthday is rapidly approaching and so the workout will have 57 somewhere in there.

THE THANG

As previously mentioned, I will be 57 on 4/15.  Needing to incorporate 57 into the workout seemed logical.  But how to accomplish this task?  How about a return to a classic…a deck of cards.  Remove the 5 and 2 card from each suit. The remaining cards from each suit will add up to 57.  When the face cards of Queen, Jack or Ace are drawn, the men will run up Thiggy’s Hill and return to the AO.  When the other cards are drawn, the following exercises are performed according to the number on the card.

  • Spades – block swings
  • Hearts – block merkins
  • Clubs – block curls
  • Diamonds – Block squats

All the remaining cards (minus the 5 and 2) added up to a total of 228 movements and the hill was climbed 12 times.  Unfortunately, due to the poorly timed hamstring insult that occurred during the warmup, the leader had to skip those delightful hills.

MARY
As we made it back to the flag with two minutes to spare, Gutterball (Freddie Mercury’s) and PBS (Heels to Heaven) completed the workout on the request of Pedialyte.

Matthew 26:40-41

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?”  he asked Peter.  “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.  The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”

The story of the disciples in Gethsemane rings true for all of us. We can so easily be distracted from prayer, worship, or a kind act by hunger, exhaustion, sexual desire, feeling too cold or too hot, thirst, pain, and even a persistent itch. The flesh shouts loudly when it wants something, and the ruckus it makes can easily drown out the desires of the spirit. Even when the spirit is willing to do whatever God asks, the flesh remains weak.

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. All believers know the struggle. But when we watch and pray—when we remain spiritually alert and appeal to God for help—we can find strength in the time of need.
