PRAYER
MOLESKIN

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1

By faith, Abel brought a better offering than Cain. By faith, Enoch was saved. By faith, Noah survived. By faith, Abraham obeyed. By faith, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (imperfect men as they were) prayed a blessing over their children and grandchildren, believing in the promise — and the faithfulness of the Promise Keeper.

There’s a clear Biblical model of fathers praying blessings over their children and grandchildren. I don’t pretend to understand how all that works, but there’s a clear model in Scripture to do it, and a clear idea in Scripture that our battle isn’t a physical one, it’s a spiritual one. And that the way to fight a spiritual battle isn’t to strive harder to control what is going on in the physical world, but — to hide God’s Word in your heart, and to pray.

So… If you’re not already doing that, perhaps today is the day to make that a habit? Pray good things over your kids, wife, employees, students, and friends. Pray for blessing and success in all of the good things that their hands set out to do. Pray for clear direction and wisdom and discernment to know which way to go. Pray for a clear path and for peace and for the faith to believe.

Then, keep praying. Every time they come to mind. Every time things seem hard. Every time there’s a challenge. Every time there’s a choice to make. Every time (insert reason)… Pray.

Another thing that is clearly modeled in the Bible about prayer is that God seems to responds to those who are annoyingly persistent and boldly faithful. Like the woman who just won’t let it go — who keeps nagging until she gets her way. Apparently, in a sense, we can wear God down, and convince Him to go our way, to bless those who we want Him to bless, to bring success where we are hoping for success.

Again, I don’t pretend to understand all of that, but if God’s Word models it, sets it as an example, and says that it’s true, then I’ll follow its lead.

Besides, there’s no cost to try, and there’s nothing to lose. But perhaps, everything to gain, for you and for your children, and their children…

“Study to show yourself approved unto God. A workman that does not need to be ashamed. Rightly understanding the Word of Truth.” – 1 Timothy 2

“I urge you, first of all, to pray, with petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving for all people… For this is good and pleases God, who wants for all people to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and man — Christ Jesus — who gave himself as a ransom for all people… Therefore I want all men, everywhere, to pray.” – 1 Timothy 2

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” – Ephesians 6

Amen! (let it be so)
